In the recent referendum regarding Greek Life’s allocation of the Student Activities Fee, Greek Life pledged that if the decision of the Student Executive Council were overturned, we would provide a restricted gift of just over $83,000 to the Tinkham Veale III University Center. This $83,000 is SAF money that Greek Life accumulated over several decades, and the intention of this gift is for the money to be used by students in a significant way in the immediate/near future.
A key word in the previous paragraph is “restricted” – meaning the money would only be able to be used for a specific project, as defined by the gift. The goal is to have the money go towards a project that will have a direct impact on students’ activities, and to provide resources that would not have been available otherwise.
Now, you could be wondering, how do we define what the money will be spent on? In the coming weeks, Greek Life will be forming a committee comprised of representatives of the SEC organizations as well as undergraduate students, both Greek and non-Greek, to answer just that question.
If you are interested in being a part of the committee, or would simply like to submit ideas, please email me UniversityCenterDonation@case.edu. We are looking to collect a wide variety of ideas for discussion so that the money can serve the students in the most effective way possible.
