After day one of the University Athletic Association swimming and diving championships on Wednesday, Feb. 15, the University of Rochester women lead thanks to their depth of divers. Sara Spielman, Rachel deLahunta, Meg Braun, and Joanna Wallace all placed in the top eight for the Yellowjackets, who scored 149 points on the opening day.
Kelly Dietz won the women’s 1-meter, 11 dives for New York University, scoring 435.40 points after winning the preliminary event with 425.40 points. Freshman Kate Donnelly finished eighth for the Violet with 331.65 points, and New York sits in second place with 54 points.
The University of Chicago currently sits in third with 42 points, thanks for the most part to junior Becky Schmidy’s second-place, 409.95-point performance. Emory University’s 27 points came solely from sophomore Sarah Greene’s third-place finish.
Washington University is fifth with 17 points and Case Western Reserve University is sixth with 13 points. Case’s points come thanks to a 13th place finish by sophomore diver Taryn Fitch.
