The women’s basketball team fell against nationally ranked Emory University on Sunday. The team was unable to get much going offensively, losing to the strong team 52-76.
Compared to the successful showing last weekend, the Spartans had only one player hit double figures in scoring as Laura Mummey scored 11 points. She had the opening score of the game, but the basket was quickly erased when Emory went up 16-4 in the first five minutes of play. The team started making strides offensively, but they weren’t able to dig themselves out as they entered the half 30-48.
The Spartans came out hot in the second half, putting up eight quick points to come within 13 of the Eagles, but after that the points were too few and far between creating very little hope for a comeback. Despite the low scoring numbers, Spartan Berit Eppard did her part to get the team the opportunities they needed defensively, meeting her career-high rebound total of 14 in the game.
The team will look to get back to .500 in the conference versus No. 2 Washington University at home next Friday.
