2024 Guide to the Federal Elections

There are many high-profile races that are included in this election, mostly for positions on the federal level. The big one is the race for president, where five pairs of names will appear on the ballot. This includes Green Party candidate Jill Stein, whose candidacy in the State of Ohio is currently being challenged in federal and state courts due to a late notification over her choice of running mate. In the voting booth, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections noted that votes for Stein and Felipe Rios would not count.

The U.S. Senate race is, similarly, a highly contested race in Ohio, with spending exceeding $441 million. There has been no televised debate between the two main candidates: incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown and Republican Bernie Moreno, a businessman. Joining the race is Don Kissick, an auto mechanic and veteran running on the Libertarian ticket.

Compared to the two previous races, the election for congressional representative is far less competitive. The current representative, Democrat Shontel Brown, only “kicked off” her campaign in August. Her opponents are Republican Alan Rapport, former mayor of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Sean Freeman, an independent candidate who works at AML RightSource doing anti-money laundering work.
