Track teams place sixth, eighth at DIII Championship
Spartans head into final leg of season, prepare for UAA tournament
Spartans made a splash this last weekend. Our Spartan men and women ran, leaped and vaulted their way onto the scoreboard in the 2015 Division III All‐Ohio Track and Field Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The men and women placing sixth and eighth, respectively, in one of the most competitive outdoor meets of the season. There were plenty of amazing finishes on the track last week.
Junior Kelsey Aamoth christened a new All‐Ohio record in the 5000‐meter run with a time of 17:20.52. In this event, two more of our Spartan women landed in the top six, scoring points to add to the overall team total. Senior Kristen Ruckstuhl crossed the finish line third with a time of 17:34.22 and junior Lydia Green finished sixth with 18:23.15.
Some other notable events for the men’s squad included senior Sam Reusser hurling an impressive 14.58 meters for a second place finish in the shot put event. The distance was a new career record for Reusser. Reusser also earned an University Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Week award for his performance.
Senior Toby Kilroy and junior Reuben Treatman launched javelins 50.50 and 49.27 meters, landing fourth and fifth place in the javelin throw. With the semester coming to a close, the season is only heating up, just like the weather.
Hopefully the track and field team will make a mark at the University Athletic Association outdoor championship in two weeks. Before then, they’ll be breaking records and finishing tape at the Sparky Adams Invitational this weekend in Berea, Ohio.
