Iacono earns second-straight UAA Player of the Week

For the second-straight week and third time this season, Case Western Reserve University senior guard Evy Iacono has been selected as the University Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Iacono earns the award for the fourth time in her career.

Versus New York University on Friday, Jan. 11, the fourth-year Spartan recorded her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 57-42 Spartans’ 57-42 victory. Two days later in Boston, Iacono poured in 17 points and hit the go-ahead free throws in the final minute in a 50-46 victory at Brandeis University.

The UAA’s scoring leader at 19.5 points per game, Iacono has reached double-figures in points in 12-of-14 games this season and has averaged 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 steals. She also paces the Association in free throw shooting at 82.5 percent (47-of-57).

Through 88 career games, the two-time All-UAA guard ranks sixth all-time in program history with 1178 points having recently moved past Jasmine Rowan’s (2000-04) total of 1165. Iacono now needs just five to catch Ashleigh Tondo (2006-10) for fifth with 1183 and 19 to catch Allison Bethea (1984-88) in fourth with 1197.

Of note, Iacono is quickly approaching the 1200-point barrier, a mark that just three Spartan women have eclipsed. Jody Chattin (1990-94) amassed 1220, Erin Hollinger (2008-12) finished with 1421, and Erin Rogalski (1998-2001) leads the program with 1659.

Iacono and the Spartans (10-4 overall, 2-1 UAA) have won seven-of-eight and open home conference portion of the schedule this Friday, Jan. 18 versus Emory University (12-2, 2-1 UAA) inside Horsburgh Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
