Sheriff’s Department takes over Tanisha Anderson investigation

In a press release given June 23, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department announced that it will be taking over the investigation of the Tanisha Anderson case. Anderson was a 37-year-old woman who died after being restrained by two police officers on November 13. Aldridge and Myers had been called to take Anderson to St. Vincent Charity Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Cleveland Police said the two officers, Scott Aldridge and Bryan Myers, held Anderson in a prone position. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Weeks after Anderson’s death, the U.S. Department of Justice released findings on the Cleveland Police and their use of force. They found that too many officers neglected to use proper tactics before using force. In agreement with the Department, Cleveland Police will create a committee to help officers use better strategies when dealing with individuals with mental-health issues.

Tri-C launches a new high school diploma program

Nearly 1.1 million adults in Ohio do not have a high school diploma. In effort to change this and give better job opportunities to these adults, Cuyahoga Community College launched the Adult Diploma Program this week. The program prepares men and women 22 and older in health-care service, manufacturing, logistics and construction careers by giving them free courses. Those who go through the free program and pass the job-skills test receive a diploma and an industry credential.

Man charged in home invasion murder

Craig Wilson, 26, was accused of killing 25-year-old Jimmie Laster last Tuesday.Laster who was in his East 35^th Street apartment at the Arbor Park Village complex. Wilson shot Laster several times. He was already on parole for robbery, burglary and theft charges.
