Students are invited to attend president Barbara R. Snyder’s second-annual student State of the University address. The event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Strosacker auditorium.

“While many universities across the country give an address to the faculty and staff, it is very rare to have the president of an institution deliver one just for the students,” said Minh-Tri Nguyen, president of the Undergraduate Student Body.

Light refreshments will be provided.

A question and answer session will also be held after the address. Attendants will have a chance to speak with the president directly.

“This is the perfect opportunity for any student to come voice their concerns with her,” said Nguyen.

A year ago, Snyder used the address to summarize the successes and failures of the 2008-2009 academic year. High points included CWRU’s attainment of federal stimulus money and an increase in donations that would contribute to the betterment of student life.

This year, after continued growth in funding and donations, expected topics include the new plans for a student center and the possibility of merit-based scholarships for international students.

“You may hear her [Snyder] talk about the developments of the University Center, provide comments on admission policies, study abroad and much more,” Nguyen said.

The institution of this new tradition speaks to Snyder’s concern for the undergraduate student body.

“President Snyder is truly committed to the students,” said Nguyen.
