Not Quite St. Patty’s Day Party

The Jolly Scholar will be serving up kegs and eggs this morning in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day. They have prepared for the holiday, which falls during spring break this year, by brewing green beer early and stocking up on enough corned beef to feed a campus. Irish-themed drink specials are on tap all day featuring favorites like Guinness, Jameson, and car bombs.

Polar Bear Plunge

If you’ve ever had the urge to jump into the freezing waters of Lake Erie in the winter, now is your chance, and the good news is it benefits a good cause (making you seem just a little less crazy). The event will raise awareness and money for Parkinson’s, Juvenile Diabetes’s Research Foundation, and Team FOX. For your donation you’ll also receive an event sweatshirt and food and drink specials.

Afternoon at The Cinematheque

The Cleveland premiere of “Margaret” takes place Saturday night, but catch the film after the crowds have died down Sunday afternoon. Starring Anna Paquin, Matt Damon, and Mark Ruffalo, directed by Kenneth Lonergan, and filmed in 2007, the film follows a 17-year-old NYC student who is convinced that she was partly responsible for a bus accident that killed a woman.

Science Café Cleveland

The weekly series about all things nerdy will host a panel discussing the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster which resulted from a tsunami produced by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake off the shores of Japan. The talk is being held a day after the event’s one-year anniversary. Experts on the panel will discuss the concerns and effects of the exposure and treatment of radiation.

Mythic Creatures! Dragons, Unicorns, & Mermaids

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History gets creative this month with the premiere of a new exhibition focusing on what seems like fantasy. However, these animals that people believed in for centuries may have their roots in ancient fossils. This exhibit is for the kid in everyone.

Self Expression(ism)

Cleveland Play House is presenting a new Tony-award winning production, “Red,” inspired by the life and work of color field painter, Mark Rothko. Inspired by the production, this local art gallery will be hosting a round table discussion of spontaneity, personal process, inspiration, and the abstract expressionist style. The panel will be comprised of innovative Cleveland artists and experts, including two of CWRU’s own professors.

Cellar Door Records B-day Party

144th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The parade is a tried-and-true Cleveland tradition! It kicks off at E. 18th and Superior Ave., travels southwest on Superior Ave. to East Roadway, then heads northwest on East Roadway for one block before turning northeast on Rockwell Ave. and coming to an end at the intersection of Rockwell Ave. and East 6th St. Last year’s parade featured over 10,000 participants.

Abe Frajndlich Visits Campus

One of the most legendary portrait photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries will be giving an artist’s lecture on the CWRU campus, sponsored by the Art History Club. Frajndlich has made a name for himself photographing some of the most prolific artists and writers of his time including Cindy Sherman, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, and countless others. Come see his work and experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet a man who has met so many people through his lens.

CIFF Kick-off

With a recent grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, this year’s Film Festival promises to be unforgettable for film buffs visiting the Cleveland area from March 22 to April 1. With over 100 films from around the world, the opening gala kicks off with a showing of “Nesting,” directed by Cleveland native John Chuldenko. Even though most movies will only be $10 each, opening night is for true cinema die-hards looking to party.
