Mardi Gras… Again!

The Jolly Scholar is throwing a special edition of Jolly Friday Nights this week. Wear your beads and dress in purple, green, and gold. They will have masks, king cake, music, and hurricanes to make your Mardi Gras bright in case you missed the celebration last Tuesday. Drink specials that can’t be beat will be happening throughout the night.

Location: The Jolly Scholar, Thwing Center

Time: 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Project MOCA: A Monumental Fashion Competition

Experience the drama of high fashion as MOCA presents a couture throw-down in an art gallery. In the style of the popular reality TV show “Project Runway,” select fashion students from area universities will design original fashions that address “monumentality” as inspired by Ursula von Rydingsvard’s sculpture. A panel of fashion-savvy judges will evaluate the designs and select a winner during our live runway competition.

Location: MOCA Cleveland, 8501 Carnegie Ave.

Time: 7 to 10 p.m.

Price: $5 for students

Big Gigantic

Colorado festival favorites Big Gigantic will be headlining this weekend at the Grog Shop supported by Paper Diamond. With over 70,000 downloads of their freshman album to date, Big Gigantic have proven to be the big boys on campus when it comes to jamtronica, electro, and live music performance.

Location: The Grog Shop, 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd.

Time: 9 p.m.

Price: $15

Breathe. Relax. Renew.

We all need a little time to breathe in our busy schedules. This university health seminar will only take you one hour to master all the tricks of meditation and breathing techniques to manage stress and relax the body and mind. During the interactive workshop, most time will be spent practicing relaxation and stress-management techniques to incorporate into your daily activities.

Location: Nord Hall 310

Time: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Price: FREE

Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week

For only $30 Clevelanders can snag three-course dinners at a variety of downtown restaurants today until Sunday, March 3. In addition, many restaurants will be serving up $15 lunch specials for those on the hunt for a gourmet early meal. Greenhouse Tavern, Pura Vida, Sushi Rock, and Lola are among 40 restaurants participating.

Location: Downtown Cleveland

Time: Lunch after 12 p.m., dinners after 5 p.m.

Price: $15 lunches, $30 dinners (reservations recommended)

Big Chucklefck

If you have a hankering for comedy and can’t wait until UPB brings Aziz to town, check out this gathering of local comedians close-by to get your laugh on.  This week Mike Lebovitz, Junior Stopka, and Marty DeRosa perform.

Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexuality

The LGBT Center will host Robyn Ochs, a professional speaker and award-winning activist as well as the editor of “Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World,” for a public lecture exploring the landscape of sexual orientation and the relationship between experience and self-identity. A dinner and informal discussion with Ochs will follow the event. RSVP on the LGBT Center’s website.
