Case Western Reserve University junior guard Evy Iacono has been named the University Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced the league office on Monday.
Iacono averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists as the Spartans defeated the University of Rochester and Emory University this past weekend. During Friday’s upset of then-No. 11 nationally-ranked Rochester, Iacono matched a career-high with 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Iacono also hit the game-winning jumper with six seconds left to give the Spartans a 58-57 victory.
For the season, the All-UAA guard is averaging 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game
Monday’s UAA Player of the Week nod is the first of Iacono’s career.
The Spartans (14-10, 7-6) wrap up the season on Saturday, Feb. 25 at rival Carnegie Mellon University (9-15, 3-10) at 3 p.m. Case, who will finish a fourth winning campaign in five seasons under head coach Jennifer Reimer, has already posted its highest win total under the head coach.
