Cross Country Rundown:

 

The Case Western Reserve University cross country teams performed exceptionally well at the Carnegie Mellon University Mideast Pre-Regional meet on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Spartan squads are both ranked No. 30 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women’s team placed second with the help of Justine Jeroski and Natalia Cabrera who placed second and fourth in the 6-kilometer race. The women’s team finished behind champions and No. 26 ranked Oberlin College.

 

The men’s cross country team finished third at the Pre-Regional, behind host No. 10 CMU and No. 19 Oberlin. The men placed two runners in the top-15, sophomore Chris Kelly crossed the 8-kilometer finish line in 26:36 to finish 10th while senior Robert Ontko finished in 26:48, good enough for 14th place.The Spartans next meet will be the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University on Oct. 1.
UAA Athletes of the Week:

Case Western Reserve University had two student athletes named UAA Athlete’s of the Week in their respective sports. Senior Justine Jeroski received the honor for her efforts in cross

country at the Carnegie Mellon University Mideast Pre-Regional. Jeroski, an All-American, placed second overall to captain the Spartans to a second-place finish. Jeroski ran in a time of 22:20 in the 6-kilometer race.

On the tennis court, sophomore Samantha Lewis improved her record to 4-0 in dual meets on the year. Lewis, who plays in the No. 2
singles spot and doubles, went undefeated on the weekend as CWRU defeated Baldwin-Wallace College and John Carroll University. Lewis and her partner, freshman Kara Richardson, posted a pair of victories in eight-game pro-sets this weekend, 8-3 over B-W and 8-1 over John Carroll.
