Dec. 2 is #GivingTuesdayatCWRU
November 29, 2014
Dec. 2 is your time to give back to the Case Western Reserve University community on #GivingTuesdayatCWRU. Giving Tuesday is an international day of philanthropy that was brought to the CWRU campus three years ago.
This year, charities supported include Case EMS, Labre Homeless Outreach Program, the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning and Habitat for Humanity. A full list of charities supported can be found on the event’s website. Donations can also be made on the website.
Last year, the day supported fifteen CWRU-related charities and raised $8,000 total.
Representing the largest concerted effort to build charitable momentum in the world, Giving Tuesday was inaugurated by the 92nd Street Y, a Jewish community organization in New York City, and the United Nations Foundation.
Since 2012, the event has grown to include over 10,000 partner organizations that join together to celebrate generosity and giving. It is designed to build off the momentum generated around Thanksgiving with “Black Friday,” “Cyber Monday,” and now, “Giving Tuesday.”
It gained national prominence with a resolution introduced by U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and Congressman Aaron Schock to recognize the day as a National Day of Giving.
Led by a partnership who seek to influence the national landscape such as Microsoft, Kiva, charity:water and MSNBC, the hope is that #GivingTuesday will help spur Americans to give back and channel the holiday spirit.
