For fans of flannel: Curling.
February 9, 2014
The sport that combined the unlikely pair of brooms and stones, curling has recently gained popularity with the relatively low equipment cost and the focus on repetition and physics. Each match consists of a team of four trying to get a stone into the target area. There are ten teams on the men and women’s side which will have round-robin competition throughout the games.
Front-runners in the event are the teams from Norway, Canada and Great Britain who have embraced the recreational nature of the sport along with its distinct non-athlete culture. The men typically enjoy a tongue-in-cheek attitude to their choice in activity while the women have power personalities which have created superstars in Norway and Great Britain.
