With a ticket to the Super Bowl on the line, each of the top two teams in the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) battled it out against each other in two exciting games. The first game of the day had the Tennessee Titans playing on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. The sixth-seed Titans were coming off of back-to-back impressive upsets against the New England Patriots and the top-ranked Baltimore Ravens. A big reason these upsets were possible was due to running back Derrick Henry rushing for more than 175 yards in both games. Henry, the NFL’s leading rusher this year, was only held to 69 yards and one touchdown by the Chiefs’ defense. Titans’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw for two touchdowns and the Titans converted a field goal for a total of 24 points. The Chiefs had a slow start, quickly going down 10-0, but then Patrick Mahomes stepped up and threw a touchdown to receiver Tyreek Hill to jump start the Chiefs. Receiver Sammy Watkins also caught a touchdown and had 114 receiving yards on the day. Mahomes had a solid all-around game, throwing for 294 yards as well as three touchdowns. Mahomes also rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown. The Titans were not able to keep up, and the Chiefs won the game 35-24, earning a spot in the Super Bowl. 

In the NFC, the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers played the second-seeded Green Bay Packers. The 49ers came out strong on both offense and defense, scoring 27 points in the first half, while shutting down every attempt by the Packers to score. The defense forced a fumble, and 49ers running back Raheem Mostert had two touchdowns. In the second half, the Packers began to show signs of life, scoring three touchdowns while holding the 49ers to only 10 points, but the 49ers strong first half proved to be too much for Green Bay to overcome. Mostert had a monster game, rushing for 220 yards on 29 carries and scoring four touchdowns. Forty-niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo only needed to throw for 77 yards. The 49ers sealed the win after cornerback Richard Sherman intercepted a throw from Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 

The 49ers and Chiefs will now go head-to-head on Feb. 2 in Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
