RHA week celebrates residence halls, Cleveland
Love Where You Live Week, jokingly referred to as “Residence Hall Association (RHA) Week,” is RHA’s biggest event of the academic year, and kicked off on Monday, April 2 with free coffee and donuts at Tinkham Veale University Center. The week-long event will culminate on Friday, April 6 in Night to Unite.
Love Where You Live carried on this week with tabling and free food at either TVUC or Thwing Center. Trail mix, RHA trivia and RHA-themed water bottles were offered on Tuesday, Jolly Scholar’s chicken wings— including their famous “devil’s toenail” recipe— and potato wedges on Wednesday, cookies from Insomnia Cookies on Thursday and cupcakes on Friday.
Friday is the Love Where You Live week grand finale: Night to Unite. The event will run from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Thwing, and will feature food from 11 Cleveland restaurants and performances by 15 Case Western Reserve University student organizations.
Ari Menon, third-year student and Executive Vice President of RHA Programming, said, “While we wanted [Night to Unite] to be globally inclusive, we wanted it to be very Cleveland. That’s why all the entertainment [are] CWRU groups and all the restaurants are local Cleveland restaurants run by people who’ve come from different parts of the world to Cleveland; now, they’re entrepreneurs running these great restaurants.”
Night to Unite attendees can expect sushi from Pacific East Japanese Restaurant, soul food from V’s Gourmet Chicken and other University Circle favorites. Students who have dietary restrictions or who are keeping kosher for Passover can also be reassured that a variety of accomodating food options will be provided.
Love Where You Live Week and Night to Unite, however, serve to do more than offer good food. The tabling in TVUC and Thwing, for example, gives RHA members the opportunity to talk with residents one-on-one, spread awareness of RHA’s values and hear student feedback on RHA events and projects.
When asked about the RHA’s primary goals for Love Where You Live Week, first-year student and Storrs House Representative Madison Smith said, “Promoting RHA and making what we do more known is very important, but building the community … that’s the reason I joined RHA, and that’s the change I want to make on our campus.”
