What: 44th Annual Sci-Fi Marathon

The Case Western Reserve University Film Society presents the 44th annual Sci-Fi marathon. The festival features 18 different films from a variety of eras, including 2018’s “A Quiet Place,” 1910’s “Frankenstein” and 1984’s “Gremlins.” An all access ticket costs $25 presale for CWRU staff, students and faculty. When: Friday 7:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m., Saturday 2:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m., Sunday 2:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.

This adaptation of Homer’s epic tale of the Trojan War features a unique twist on the one of the oldest stories in Western literature. Instead of a large group of actors, the play features only a single actor and one cellist. Ticket range from $97 for a box seat to $25 for an orchestra seat.

What: Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation

Where: Tinkham Veale University Center

When: Friday 12:45 p.m.

Every year, CWRU honors Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy with a variety of activities including speakers, workshops, films and panel discussions. This year LaToya Ruby Frazier, an acclaimed photographer and video artist, will be the main speaker at the Convocation honoring the Civil Rights leader. Frazier’s photo essay “The Geography of Oppression,” focused on the impact of King’s assassination on the physical structure of Memphis, Baltimore and Chicago.

Saturday, Jan. 19

What: IMPROVment’s back

Where: Eldred Black Box Theatre

When: 9 p.m.

CWRU’s improvisational comedy troupe presents their first show of the semester. Admission is free, but the troupe suggests arriving 15 minutes before the event to get a seat before the doors close at 9 p.m.

What: Songbooks & Storytelling–Choose your own adventure!

Where: Bop Stop

When: 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Les Delices, a Cleveland-based ensemble specializing in medieval music, will be performing selections from a recently discovered 15th century songbook. The group uses instruments from the period to create a musical experience like few others. Registration is recommended.

Sunday, Jan. 20

What: Couch Gags

Where: Skidmark Garage

When: 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

A motorcycle garage may seem like an unlikely venue for a comedy show, but the 10,000 square foot Skidmark Garage features a retro lounge and bar space to go along with the repair stations. The cooperatively owned organization features art displays and dogs to along with the comedy by SX1 Entertainment. Admission is on a donation basis.
