CWRU’s men’s and women’s swimming teams celebrated their senior classes with wins

This past weekend, the Case Western Reserve University men’s and women’s swimming teams both celebrated their senior class by hosting Baldwin Wallace University. Both teams earned a victory, with the women’s team winning 193-77 and the men’s team winning 209-64. 

Before the meet started, 11 graduating seniors combined were recognized for their efforts over the four years on the team. On the women’s team, Olivia Picchione, Sienna Picchione, Julia Ver Voort, Rhiannon Reese, Victoria Schoenig, Sarah Taekman, Corri Sept and Elizabeth Ye were recognized, and, on the men’s team, James Pierre, A.J. Quinn and Eli Rose were all honored. With this win over Baldwin Wallace, the men’s team improved their record to 6-2 and the women’s team improved their record to 7-2. Both teams also earned first place finishes in a majority of their events, with the women earning first place in 12 out of 16 events and the men placing first in 13 out of the 16 events. 

In women’s diving, second-year Hailey Seibert placed first in her diving events, with a score of 207.45 in the 1-meter dive and 199.75 in the 3-meter dive. First year Maria Pritchett won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Third-year Caitlyn VonFeldt won the 200- and 100-yard freestyle. The women’s 200-yard medley team, which consisted of VonFeldt, second-year Kelly Moton, second-year Anna Smith and second-year Sarah Krueger, did well also. 

On the men’s side, the 200-yard medley relay, consisting of third-year Sean Twomey, second-year Michael Clough, first-year Connor Chignell and first-year Anatole Borisov, placed with a time of 1:38.87. Third-year diver Cassiel Yuzik won the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, with scores of 231.15 and 258.90, respectively. 

With the senior day over, the Spartans focus on the rest of the season, traveling to the University of Chicago next week for the start of UAA Championships.
